Capital Region Free Store
ALBANY, NY (07/12/2021) (readMedia)-- Ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday July 13th. 11 AM. At Westgate Building next to Westgate shopping center 10 North Russell Road Albany.
Foster Children always get hand me downs or get by with very little. Most of the time they carry their possessions in a black garbage bags. This will soon change the store has luggage, backpacks and carry bags for each child.
For the last year Victory Church has been building a new mini department store that will supply the needs of foster children and teens throughout the Capital District. With the help of volunteers and church members this dream will become a reality tomorrow at 11 AM a ribbon will be cut that will begin a new chapter for Victory Church. The Church had to suspend operations at their feeding center located at first and Quail because of shots being fired into the building. With another shooting last week outside the location it looks like the center will be closed for the summer.
The new store will give away all new items including new Nike sneakers, bikes, dress clothes, personal items and more. The 8,000 Square Ft store will also help foster parents with bedding, pillows and mattresses.
The church has a foster home in Guilderland NY and last year began to realize the need to help these children and teens the home is called "Our Home" and the new store will be called "Our Store" letting the children take ownership.
Many area leaders and supporters along with Mayoral candidates and former Mayor of Albany will be in attendance to help cut the ribbon of the new store.
