New Licensee Numbers Rise in July, New Businesses Fall

ALBANY, NY (08/12/2010)(readMedia)-- New York Secretary of State Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez today announced that the agency's Division of Licensing Services licensed 6,675 New Yorkers last month, a two percent increase from July 2010. Included in those numbers are a 23 percent increase in the number of real estate brokers and salespeople and a nearly 54 percent increase in the number of newly licensed security guards.Meanwhile, the Division of Corporations saw a five percent drop in the number of newly registered business entities in July 2010 over July 2009, though the number of new business registered in the last year (Aug. 2009 – July 2010) increased more than two percent over the number registered the year before (Aug. 2008 – July 2009). A month-over-month comparison of new entity filings for business corporations, not-for-profits, limited liability companies, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships can be found below:

The Department of State's Division of Corporations files and maintains documents relating to business entities that are formed under the laws of New York State or authorized to do business under the laws of the state – in addition to the new entity filings listed above. The Division receives applications to register a business' name and receives certificates of amendment, such as changes in address or registered agent, as well as certificates of incorporation, merger and dissolution.
