New Paltz Town Council to Speak Out Against Proposal 1

Press Conference to be held on SUNY New Paltz Campus

Local officials in New Paltz will speak to the media about why Ballot Proposal 1, a constitutional amendment revising redistricting, should be rejected by the voters on Nov 4th.

WHAT:

Town of New Paltz elected officials will hold a press conference to publicly voice their opposition to Proposal 1, a controversial referendum on redistricting across New York State. The latest in a long line of opposition, the Vote No on Prop 1 position has been endorsed by numerous elected officials, local organizations and unions across the state.

Press conference taking place before Debate:

The Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach at SUNY New Paltz, along with the League of Women Voters of the Mid-Hudson Region, will sponsor a debate on revising the redistricting process in New York State.

The question of the redistricting process, which will be known as Proposal 1 on the Nov. 4 election ballot, will be debated Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Deyo Hall. If approved, the proposal would create a redistricting commission to establish state Senate, Assembly and Congressional districts in New York.
