New Video Blog Links Recreational Athletes via QR Code

STAUNTON, VA (01/25/2011)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department reveals a new segment of their web 2.0 marketing progression. "Recreation Domination" is the department's new video blog (vlog) featuring the recreation division's athletic leagues. The department's Athletic Specialist James Corbett will produce and monitor the blog and has planned a weekly posting featuring one of the various 23 leagues operated by the department during the different seasons. "Recreation Domination" will be a subcategory of the department's The Method To Our Madness blog which can be viewed here or by googling "recreation video blog" - the blog should appear on the 1st or 2nd page of the aforementioned PageRanking. The Method To Our Madness blog is hosted by the WordPress blogging platform.

After testing the waters with a few video blogs, the department saw that video blogs capturing participants in action received quite a bit of interest from our blog readers. In addition, the department identified a need to target market the department's athletic leagues of which 95% the participants are age segment 18-35. Given the recent estimations that mobile smart phones will become more popular than laptop computers and the age segment 18-35 years olds will be making the mobile smart phone transition prior to other demographic categories, the department will speak directly to smart phone users hoping to entice potential athletic participants. Following this logic, the Staunton Parks and Recreation Department registered a QR code, a bar code, that is linked to the URL of the "Recreation Domination" video blog and will begin marketing the QR code in some very visible locations. Smart phone users need only scan the QR code and magically, the "Recreation Domination" website will be directly linked to their smart phone.

The goal of this marketing effort is to increase awareness of the recreational athletic leagues available in Staunton. Through awareness we hope to attract more participants into leagues such as kickball, flag football, futsal and outdoor soccer. Ultimately the purpose of the leagues are to promote one of our 2011 goals of healthy active living in Staunton. Let's Make Staunton Great!
