LATHAM, NY (10/13/2014)(readMedia)-- A four-member New York Army National Guard Public Affairs Team from the Capital Region travels to Japan this week to support the annual Orient Shield exercise.

The New York Soldiers will join 850 U.S. Soldiers for the two-week training exercise.

The exercise partners U.S Army personnel with Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces for field and staff training exercises.

Orient Shield 14 takes place from October 27 to November 7, in and around Camp Higashi- Chitose, the island of Hokkaido, Japan's northern-most island. The annual, bilateral exercise is co-sponsored by U.S. Army Japan and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force

The New York National Guard photo and broadcast journalists will cover troops participating in unilateral light infantry, squad-level training to include urban assault, building clearing, lane training and situational training.

The Soldiers participating come from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii ; the Utah and Texas Army National Guard; and the Army Reserve.
