FRANKFORT , NY (08/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Visitors to the Herkimer County fair will be to check out a New York Army National Guard humvee and take a look at the kind of food Soldiers eat in the field if they stop by the Army National Guard recruiting station at the fair.

Army National Guard recruiters will have samples of Meals Ready to Eat, or MREs, which fair goers can take a look at and a humvee, like those used by troops who responded to the floods in the county earlier this year.

Members of the Army National Guard will also be on hand to talk about what it's like to be one of New York's Citizen Soldiers.

Reporters looking for a different angle on their fair coverage are invited to stop by the Army National Guard recruiting display and also talk to the Guard recruiters.

The New York Army National Guard, with a membership of about 10,500 Soldiers, is currently at 100 percent strength. National Guard Recruiters, though, are continually seeking new Soldiers to fill job education opportunities available in units across the state. Throughout the summer months New York Army National Guard recruiters will be manning booths at county fairs to let the public and potential Soldiers know more about the force.
