CAMP SMITH, CORTLANDT MANOR, NY (05/20/2011)(readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard recruits from New York City and Long Island will participate in an adventure training weekend Friday night through Sunday at Camp Smith Training Site near Peekskill.
Members of the press are invited to visit Camp Smith Saturday to observe these new Soldiers preparing for basic training.
WHO: More than 200 recently enlisted Soldiers of the New York Army National Guard who have not yet attended Initial Entry Training and being taught basic Soldier skills to prepare for this demanding training environment.
WHAT: A weekend training program of exciting, physically demanding challenges includes unarmed combat training, weapons familiarization, land navigation, physical fitness training and rappelling. Soldiers will eat MREs and stay in barracks at the Camp Smith Training Site to prepare them for a military environment. This exercise is being conducted by the New York Army National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program which provides training for newly enlisted Soldiers.
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011.
WHERE: Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor ( just north of Peekskill NY) on Routes 6 and 202 the Bear Mountain Bridge Road.
