New York Army National Guard Soldiers Attend Nov. 6 Buffalo Bills Game

Soldiers will conduct oath reaffirmation ceremony and unfurl flag to open the game.

BUFFALO, NY (11/04/2011)(readMedia)-- One hundred and fifty New York Army National Guard Soldiers and family members will be guests of the Buffalo Bills when the National Football League Team plays the New York Jets Sunday, Nov. 6 at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The Soldiers are members of the New York Army National Guard's 53rd Troop Command and 42nd Infantry Division.

One hundred Soldiers will participate in a flag unfurling ceremony at the start of the game and also participate in a ceremony reaffirming their oaths to New York and the United States. That oath reaffirmation ceremony, led by Brig. Gen. Michael Swezey, thecommander of the 53rd Troop Command, will be broadcast during the half-time show on the stadium screen.

The New York Army National Guard has 10,500 Soldiers based in armories and armed forces reserve centers located across New York.

New York Army National Guard Soldiers have served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

During New York's response to Tropical Storm Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, which caused extensive flooding in the Catskills, Hudson Valley and Binghamton area, more than 3000 members of the New York Army National Guard responded to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's call to duty.
