Visitors to the 2009 New York State Fair test their tire changing skills at the Army National Guard display.

SYRACUSE, NY (08/24/2010)(readMedia)-- Visitors to the Great New York State Fair will be able to get the feel of working as part pf a NASCAR pit crew if they visit the New York Army National Guard booth near gate 24 at the fair.

The Army National Guard recruiters on duty there will be giving visitors a chance to practice changing a tire on the NASCAR tire change simulator. Fast times will win visitors prizes.

Reporters looking for a different angle on fair coverage are invited to stop by the booth.

WHO: New York Army National Guard Recruiters

WHAT: Army National Guard display at the Great New York State Fair. The recruiters will be on hand throughout the fair. Along with the NASCAR tire change stations, visitors will be able to examine armored humvees like those the Army National Guard employs in Iraq and Afghanistan and check our the mockup of the Number 88 National Guard NASCAR racer driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

WHEN: 9 a. m. to 9 p.m. August 26 to Sept. 6

WHERE: Near Gate 24 at the New York State Fair Grounds , 581 State Fair Blvd, Syracuse

Background:

The New York Army National Guard, with a membership of about 10,500 Soldiers, is currently at 100 percent strength. National Guard Recruiters, though, are continually seeking new Soldiers to fill job education opportunities available in units across the state.
