New York City Nurse Named Health Care Professional of the Year

WASHINGTON, DC (04/27/2007)(readMedia)-- Renee Gestone-Settaducato, a United Federation of Teachers chapter leader of more than 600 nurses at Lutheran Medical Center in New York City, has received the Health Care Professional of the Year award at New York State United Teachers' 35th Representative Assembly in Washington, D.C.

Gestone-Settaducato - who has been a registered nurse for more than 35 years - was selected for the health care award because she has demonstrated excellence in the field of nursing, as well as union advocacy, NYSUT President Richard C. Iannuzzi said. "During tumultuous times, Renee is known for showing grace under pressure," he said.

At a time when recruitment is vital, "Renee has been a stabilizing force at Lutheran Medical," Iannuzzi added. "She represents a positive image with the qualities that can help other nurse-leaders emerge."

Gestone-Settaducato is also a member of NYSUT's Health Care Professionals Council, the UFT executive board and the American Federation of Teachers' Leadership Council.

NYSUT represents 575,000 teachers, school-related professionals, academic and professional faculty in higher education, professionals in education and health care and retirees. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
