New York ISO and ISO New England Announce Speaker Lineup for New York City Energy Symposium
RENSSELAER, NY, AND HOLYOKE, MA (09/15/2011)(readMedia)-- The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) and ISO New England (ISO-NE) today announced the keynote speaker and panelists for its upcoming symposium "Energy Synergy: Competition and Innovation" at the New York Hilton on Tuesday, November 1, in New York City. The symposium will bring together industry participants, government officials, and other policymakers to discuss the evolving role of competition and innovation in the Northeast electricity markets, with a focus on empowering consumers.
The featured keynote speaker will be Paul Browning, president and CEO, Thermal Products for GE Energy. Mr. Browning oversees the worldwide business plan and execution of GE's heavy-duty gas turbine, steam turbine, generator and controls, and gasification product lines.
The first panel, "Competition in the Power Markets: Delivering Value Today and in the Future," will provide insight on how competition among resources can help meet electric system reliability and environmental protection standards. Panelists include: John Bear, president and CEO of MISO; Paul Murphy, president and CEO of the Independent Electricity System Operator, Ontario; Gordon van Welie, president and CEO of ISO-NE ; Stephen Whitley, president and CEO of the NYISO; and Andrew Ott, senior vice president, markets, of PJM Interconnection. The panel moderator will be Anastasia Song, CEO of the Haugland Group.
The other panel, "The Power of Innovation: Advancing Electric System Performance and Empowering Consumers," will review the current role of new technologies on the electric grid and discuss what may occur in the future. Panelists include: Gabriel Alonso, CEO of EDP Renewables North America, LLC; Bill Capp, president and CEO of Beacon Power; Dan Delurey, executive director of the Association for Demand Response and Smart Grid (ADS); and John Kelly, executive director of the Galvin Electricity Initiative. This panel's moderator will be Kevin Burke, chairman, president and CEO of Consolidated Edison, Inc.
Speakers and panelists have been selected to highlight and discuss industry topics and trends currently shaping the industry today. Technology vendors also will be on hand to exhibit a variety of new products and services aimed at addressing current and future challenges.
