NEWBURGH, NY (10/03/2017) (readMedia)-- Military Police Soldiers of the New York Army National Guard's 442nd Military Police Company deployed from Camp Smith to Puerto Rico on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 1 and 2.

The Soldiers are providing assistance to law enforcement on the island under the command of the Puerto Rican National Guard.

On Sunday, 107 Soldiers deployed from Stewart International Airport on board three KC-135 aircraft operated by the New Hampshire Air National Guard.

On Monday, 11 Soldiers and four vehicles were airlifted from Stewart Air National Guard Base to Puerto Rico on board a C-17 flown by members of the New York Air National Guard's 105th Airlift Wing.

Fourteen Soldiers, with 12 vehicles, are still waiting to be deployed from the Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor.

The plan to deploy the 442nd MP Company was announced by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on Sept. 27.

The 442nd Militaru Police Company is based at the New York State Armory in Jamaica, Queens.

The military police Soldiers joined 60 members of the 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation who are operating four Blackhawk UH-60 helicopters in support of missions in Puerto Rico. Those Soldiers deployed from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Ronkonkoma on Sept. 27.

The New York Army National Guard also has 97 Soldiers from Buffalo's 105th Military Police Company operating in the United States Virgin Islands. Seventy-seven Soldiers are on the island of St. Thomas while 20 are on the island of St. Croix.

A Joint Incident Site Communications Capability satellite communications system operated by Airmen from the New York Air National Guard's 105th Airlift Wing is also on the ground on St. Croix. Seven Airmen are operating that system.

A six Airmen team from the 109th Airlift Wing, based at Stratton Air National Guard Base outside Schenectady, have been dispatched to provide air field operations support in Puerto Rico.

The 105th Airlift Wing also dispatched a fire truck to Puerto Rico's Jose Aponte de la Torre Airport, to provide fire suppression capabilities on 30 September.

The New York National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters is sending seven Spanish-speaking field grade officers to Puerto Rico to support the National Guard Joint Enabling Team. That team is assisting the Puerto Rican National Guard in coordinating support from National Guards across the country.

A 44-Airmen team from the 105th Airlift Wing's Base Defense Squadron is on call and waiting to deploy to the region at Stewart Air National Guard Base.

Another 120-Soldiers from the 152nd Engineer Company, based in Buffalo, are also preparing to deploy people and construction equipment to Puerto Rico.
