New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Announces Second Amendment Legislative Recommendations

TROY, NY (01/11/2010)(readMedia)-- On January 12th freedom-loving New Yorkers will assemble in Albany to celebrate and advocate for Second Amendment civil rights in the State legislature. If you are going to Albany please visit your representatives in the Assembly and State Senate and ask them to support legislation that affirms and expands New Yorkers' Second Amendment rights, and oppose bills that serve only to abridge those rights. The NYSRPA's recommendations are:

Gun owners and the NYSRPA support:

• Making New York the 41st state with right to carry concealed firearms for personal protection laws

• Expanded civil immunity when someone uses a firearm in lawful self-defense

• Uniform laws, statewide pre-emption with no exceptions for New York City

• Repealing the 2000 ban on common self-loading firearms used for self-defense, hunting and sport shooting

• Eliminating the useless ballistic database COBIS: A-5427 (Errigo) and A-6388 (Hawley) / S-1152 (Nozzollio)

• Unlicensed possession of a pistol at a range: A-828 (DelMonte) / S-5459 (Stachowski)

• Expanded protection for shooting ranges from noise complaints: A-9215 (Fields)

Gun owners and the NYSRPA oppose:

• Renewable pistol licenses: A-801A (Paulin) / S-1598A (Schneiderman)

• Prohibiting private firearms sales between non-gun dealers: A-1275 (Paulin) / S-1712 (Schneiderman)

• Blaming gun dealers for 3rd party misuse of firearms: A-1093 (Paulin) / S-1715 (Schneiderman)

• Making handguns harder to operate and use safely under the guise of "childproofing": A-1326 (Englebright) / S-5228 (Schneiderman)

• Redefining and prohibiting common self-defense and hunting ammunition: A-2881 (Koon) / S-2379 (Padavan)

• Expanding COBIS: A-2882 (Koon) / S-627 (Schneiderman) and A-3477 (Camera) / S-1188 (Parker)

• Prohibiting gun shows on public property: A-2884 (Koon)

• Establishing state standards for guns sold in New York: A-2885 (Koon) and A-2910 (Koon)

• Ammunition coding schemes: A-3200 (Benjamin) / S-2953 (Adams)

• Prohibiting firearms based upon bore diameter: S-4752 (Schneiderman)

• Prohibiting affordable handguns: A-3346 (Koon)

• Personalized "smart guns" which only exist in science fiction: A-4441 (Koon) / S-4338 (Kruger)

• Prohibiting keeping firearms available for self-defense in the home: A-5844 (Weisenberg) / S-3098 (Schneiderman)

• Prohibiting virtually all self-loading rifles and pistols which use detachable magazines: A-6157 (Titone) and A-6294 (Rosenthal) / S-4084 (Schneiderman)

• Microstamping: A-6468B (Schimel) / S-6005 (Schneiderman)

• Prohibiting carrying firearms for self-defense on public land: A-7183B (Englebright) / S-4753A (Serrano)
