New York Times Journalist and Author Kenneth P. Vogel to Keynote At Wilkes University's Bigler Journalism Conference

New York Times reporter and author Kenneth P. Vogel will be the keynote speaker at Wilkes University's 18th annual Tom Bigler Journalism Conference. The conference will be held on Friday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Tom Bigler Journalism conference invites local high school students to explore the ways the field has adapted to technological changes over time. The conference is sponsored by the Wilkes University Communication Studies Department.

Students attending the conference will have the opportunity to attend panels including "Industry Professional," where students will learn from local professionals in the field of broadcast, print, internet marketing, photography and public relations. High schoolers will also get the chance to attend workshops in broadcast production, radio, print and online journalism, and public relations.

Vogel is based in The New York Time's Washington bureau and covers the confluence of money, politics and influence. He is the author of Big Money: 2.5 Billion Dollars, One Suspicious Vehicle, and a Pimp - on the Trail of the Ultra-Rich Hijacking American Politics, published by PublicAffairs, June 2014, which chronicles the characters and motivations behind the explosion of unlimited money in American politics after the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision.

He has covered politics and government at all levels. Vogel previously reported for Politico, The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash., The Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, The Center for Public Integrity in Washington, D.C. and The Journal Inquirer in Manchester, Conn. He spent most of 2006 learning about the U.S. Congress from the inside through an American Political Science Association fellowship that allowed him to work on the staffs of two House committees.

Vogel graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and lives in Washington, D.C.
