New York native Elliot Muth Named Forester Athlete of the Week

The senior won the first conference title of his career in the Midwest Conference Championship

LAKE FOREST, IL (05/16/2012)(readMedia)-- Men's tennis player Elliot Muth (New York, N.Y./Hill School) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after claiming a pair of Midwest Conference championships the previous weekend.

Muth, a senior, was seeded fourth in the #3 singles tournament on Saturday. He cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the quarterfinals before upsetting the top seed from Grinnell College 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-0 in the semifinals. He claimed the first conference title of his career by defeating his counterpart from Monmouth College 6-4 in both sets of their championship match.

On Sunday Muth teamed with junior John Adams at #2 doubles, where the duo won 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals. They split their first two sets against Monmouth in the final, winning 7-6 (7-4) in the first before falling by the same score in the second. Muth and Adams took the decisive third set 6-4 to capture the title.

Muth became the first Forester to win league championships in singles and doubles play in the same season since Guering Williams and David Kelly accomplished the feat in 1999. He finished his career with an 80-58 record in singles and doubles combined.
