MENOMONIE, WIS. (11/21/2013)(readMedia)-- Nicole Kluck, of Rosholt, Wis., was part of a four-person team from University of Wisconsin-Stout that won an award at the annual Fusion + Fashion show held Nov. 8 in Minneapolis.
Kluck is majoring in apparel design and development.
UW-Stout's entry received the best makeup and hair award, one of seven awards given out. The contest had 27 entries, 24 of which were from professional designers and three from college teams. The show was held at the Aria in Minneapolis' Warehouse District and drew about 900 people.
Entrants were challenged to create a clothing ensemble using materials and finishes from the building design industry, not from the clothing industry. This year's theme was to design an entry inspired by Minnesota architecture or design. UW-Stout's design was based on the Crystal Court in the IDS Tower in Minneapolis.
The other students on UW-Stout's design team were interior design majors: Autumn Ash, of Eau Claire; Mary Brandt, of St. Paul; and Samantha Swanson, of Eau Claire.
"It was great being able to collaborate between interior design students and an apparel student. One thing we learned from this project is that collaboration is everything," said Brandt. "The show was a great way for us to experience life in the interior design industry."
The students' adviser was Shelley Pecha, an associate professor and director of the interior design undergraduate program.
Fusion + Fashion was sponsored by the Northland Chapter of the International Interior Design Association. A portion of the proceeds went to charity.
UW-Stout's School of Art and Design, www.uwstout.edu/artdes, has five undergraduate programs and a Master of Fine Arts in Design.
