Nicole 'Nicki' Gabriela Jimenez awarded President's Medal at Denison University
GRANVILLE, OH (05/16/2012)(readMedia)-- Denison University senior Nicole 'Nicki' Gabriela Jimenez of Foxboro (02035) was awarded a President's Medal by President Dale Knobel in a ceremony that took place on April 13, in Swasey Chapel. The President's Medal was established in 1985 to recognize stellar achievement by the top students in each graduating class. Jimenez was one of four to receive this honor.
Jimenez, an environmental studies major, has a long list of accomplishments to her credit: dean's list; Campus Sustainability Committee; People Endorsing Agricultural Sustainability, founding leader; Green Team, president; U.S. Geological Survey leadership project, research assistant; Morris K. Udall Award; Denison Community Garden, founder; Venture Philanthropy Club; Environmental Studies Senior Fellow; Cephus L. Stephens Summer Internship in Public Affairs; K.I. Brown Scholarship; Denison Founders Award; Distinguished Leadership Award; and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's premiere academic honorary.
Associate professor of English and chair of the faculty, Linda Krumholz said of Jimenez, "Nicki, one nominator writes that you have 'wrung every drop of learning from your Denison curriculum that four years will allow.' Your focus of leadership is environmental policy and, to quote a letter written about the nature of your leadership, 'You have made an indelible mark on the college and beyond, as our world moves toward sustainability and societal environmental change.' Your nominators describe you as a risk-taker who has a vision and is not afraid to act on it."
