Niles West Graduate Mahir Mameledzija Named MWC Men's Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week
The junior from Lake Forest College broke the league's single-season record for goals.
LAKE FOREST, IL (10/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Lake Forest College men's soccer player Mahir Mameledzija (Visoko, Bosnia-Herzegovina/Niles West) was named Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week on Monday after breaking the league's single-season record for goals the day before.
Mameledzija, a junior forward, scored twice in the Foresters' 2-1 come-from-behind victory over visiting University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday. He tied the score four minutes into the second half and then kicked in his 11th game-winner of the year with 6:44 remaining on the clock.
Mameledzija, who entered the final week of the regular season leading the nation in goals and points, now has 27 scores on the year, one more than the previous conference record set by Grinnell College's Vince Anku in 1963. His 58 points are also the most by any player in league history.
Anku is still the league's career leader with 67 goals and 134 points. Mameldzija has 53 scores and 122 points in just his third season.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Mameledzija has now earned the award four of the last five weeks and five times this year. He also received it once during each of his first two seasons.
