No-Bake Vegan Dish Rewarded Iowa State Fair Honors

DES MOINES, IA (08/18/2014)(readMedia)-- Nicole Woodroffe of Des Moines won First Place Overall in the Eating without Heating competition judged Thursday at the 2014 Iowa State Fair.

Woodroffe also took first place in the Raw Vegan Dessert category.

Participants were challenged to create a vegan dish that did not need to be heated. Acceptable preparation techniques included blending, dehydrating, pickling and juicing.

Recipes were judged on taste, appearance, creativity and adherence to rules.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 226 divisions, 883 classes and over 10,500 entries at this year's Fair. Food judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
