Noble Environmental Breaks Ground On New York’s Newest Windparks

Projects Increase the State’s Installed Wind Capacity by 70%

CHURUBUSCO, NY (06/23/2007)(readMedia)-- Noble Environmental Power, a leading wind energy developer, broke ground today on New York State’s two newest windparks.

“These new windparks play a critical role in helping New Yorkers achieve energy independence and enjoy a cleaner environment,” Noble Environmental Power CEO Charles C. Hinckley said. “We look forward to building on this milestone and continuing to increase the availability of clean, renewable energy in New York State and elsewhere.”

The 100.5 megawatt Noble Clinton Windpark and the 81 megawatt Noble Ellenburg Windpark, both located in Clinton County, will generate enough clean energy to power 60,000 homes. Together the two Noble Windparks represent a $360 million investment in clean, renewable energy that will bring an estimated $231 million in new revenue to the local economies of Clinton and Ellenburg over the next 20 years.

At today’s ceremony, Mr. Hinckley also announced the company will break ground on June 24 for the new 100.5 megawatt Noble Bliss Windpark, located in Wyoming County. The Noble Bliss Windpark represents a $200 million investment, is expected to bring $121 million in new revenue to the local economy of Bliss over the next 20 years, and will generate enough clean energy to power 33,000 homes.

The three windparks will use 188 GE 1.5 megawatt wind turbines and are expected to be in operation later this year, increasing New York’s installed wind capacity by 70%. Over the next 20 years, the Noble Clinton, Ellenburg, and Bliss Windparks are expected to and reduce the State’s dependence on fossil fuels by producing an amount of electricity equal to burning 6.3 million tons of coal.

The winners of Noble’s 2007 Environmental Scholarship Award were also announced at today’s groundbreaking ceremony. Five area high school students each received $2,000 in recognition of their high academic achievement and commitment to pursuing a college degree in the fields of renewable energy, environmental science, engineering or other related field.
