Norristown Resident and Drexel Alumna Rachel Semigran Awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award

PHILADELPHIA, PA (06/03/2011)(readMedia)-- Norristown resident and Drexel University alumna Rachel Semigran was recently awarded the 2011 Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award. She was one of only ten students in the nation to receive the award.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is a private, independent foundation that was established in 2000 by businessman, sportsman, and philanthropist Jack Kent Cooke. The Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award provides scholarships to students or recent alumni who demonstrate exceptional artistic and creative promise and are in financial need. Recipients can receive rewards of as much as $50,000 annually to pursue up to three years of study at an accredited graduate institute in the U.S. or abroad.
Semigran graduated from Drexel in 2010 with a bachelor of arts in English and plans to attend a graduate school in community-based theater education. She was accepted into the master of arts in applied theatre at the Central School of Speech and Drama at the University of London and New York University's master of arts in Education Theater for Colleges and Communities. Both of which are her top choices.
The award provides funding for tuition, room and board, required fees and books. Recipients are awarded based on review by a panel of artists, arts faculty, and University administrators. Scholars are selected on the criteria of artistic and creative merit, academic achievement, financial need, will to succeed and a large range of interest and activities.
