North Oaks Native David Freed Honored by MIAC as Baseball Player-of-the-Week
SAINT PAUL, MN (04/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Bethel University junior David Freed of North Oaks, Minn., has been named the inaugural Minnesota Intercollegiate Athlete Conference (MIAC) Baseball Player-of-the-Week for the 2012 season. As lead-off hitter and top spot in the Bethel lineup, Freed is batting nearly .500 and has an even higher on-base percentage. He has accounted for more than two runs per game during the team's first 14 contests.
Freed plays first base and has a .478 batting average, a .567 on-base percentage and a .609 slugging percentage. He has scored 18 runs and driven in 12 more in 14 games with 22 hits in 46 at bats, including four for extra bases (two doubles, two triples). Freed has led the team to notable nonconference victories over UW-Whitewater, Grandview, and SUNY-Oneota in 2012, while starting each of the 14 games and adding five pitching appearances.
Freed and his teammates are above .500 heading into conference play with an overall record of 8-6. This does not include an exhibition win over the Minnesota Twins' rookie team during the students' spring break.
