BETHLEHEM, PA (12/10/2018) 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania announced on December 6, 2018, that Northampton Community College (NCC) has earned a 2018 Commonwealth Award for the college's new Follett Family Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). The award recognizes outstanding recent projects contributing to Bethlehem's revitalization that reflect sustainable reinvestment in the city and are high quality in design and construction with high impact.

"This award affirms the reason why the CIE was created, to give NCC the ability to further invest in our community and continue to transform lives on so many levels," Dr. Mark Erickson, president of NCC, said. "The CIE is an unparalleled resource to support entrepreneurship in the communities the college serves while fostering the critical thinking skills our students will need to thrive in the world."

The CIE held its formal grand opening in September 2018, offering students and community residents a dynamic, state-of-the-art space for education and training related to developing entrepreneurial mindset and related skills.

Located in the college's Fowler Family Southside Center in South Bethlehem, the new space also provides interested community members and students with the tools and support needed to launch new businesses. Featured as part of the CIE is an expanded 7,500 plus square foot Fab Lab with a fully equipped wood shop and dedicated spaces/labs for plastics, 3D printing, lasers, metals, and is also home to the Martin Guitar Luthier Lab.
