ASHLAND, OH (10/24/2011)(readMedia)-- Brittany Johnson, a senior at Ashland University, interned this past summer as the statistics and analysis intern for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.
Johnson is the daughter of Edward Johnson and Denise Russo. She is a 2008 graduate of Nordonia High School and is majoring in finance at Ashland University.
Johnson was directed toward this internship through Dr. Khush Pittinger, professor of management and director of internships for the College of Business and Economics at Ashland University. The process Johnson went through for this internship consisted of an online application, a short phone interview, a second interview where she was able to visit and meet with Human Resources, then a longer panel interview and the submission of a writing sample.
Some of the responsibilities that Johnson was in charge of were to collect, analyze and edit regulatory reports and ensure the accuracy of the data. On a daily basis, she researched structure changes in the banking industry to help manage the National Information Center.
Johnson worked on regulatory reports which included the FR Y-6 (the annual report of bank holding companies), FR 2910a (the annual report of deposits and reservable liabilities), and the quinquennial survey (the survey of finance companies).
Johnson stated the most difficult part of her internship was completing the same task over and over. "However, I found that by managing my time and communicating with my peers, I was able to get the most out of my experience and make it in the best experience possible," said Johnson.
If given the opportunity again, Johnson said she would consider working at the Federal Reserve Bank again.
"Both the culture and the vast amounts of opportunities are attractive traits to the organization," said Johnson. "My experience there has helped me narrow down some of the traits I am looking for in my professional career."
