SENATOBIA, MS (03/05/2018) The deadline to apply for a Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation scholarship is April 1, according to Sybil Canon, associate vice president of Development and Special Projects.

Students receiving other forms of Financial Aid or other scholarships are still eligible to apply for Foundation Scholarships and are encouraged to do so.

Any full-time student may apply for these scholarships, which are awarded according to the criteria designated by those who established them.

Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 hours and maintain a specified grade point average, which range from 2.0-3.25, according to the criteria of the individual scholarships.

Applicants must submit a Foundation Scholarship Application, which are available from the Foundation office, the Recruiting office or online at www.northwestms.edu/foundationscholarship. In addition to the application, students will need to submit a letter of recommendation and a current resume. Instructions are outlined on the application forms.

Endowed and Annual Foundation scholarships are available through the generosity of individuals, corporations and civic organizations who have established them.s

Students must also apply for Academic scholarships by April 1. Scholarship opportunities abound at Northwest for athletes, writers, musicians, artists or dancers. Approximately one fourth of all full-time, in-state Northwest students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, and new scholarships are being endowed each year through donations to the Northwest Foundation. Students participating in cheerleading, intercollegiate sports, fine arts, publications, and other interest areas also receive scholarships.

All scholarship recipients must complete the Northwest Application for Admission and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.fafsa.gov). All scholarships are awarded prior to the fall semester. Forms for academic scholarships, such as the Presidential, June S. Gardner or Leadership scholarships, must be completed by April 1. A scholarship may be altered by the amount of Federal financial aid awarded. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in and maintain 15 semester hours.
