ALBANY, NY (11/15/2007)(readMedia)-- Douglas R. Wilson of Norwich has been appointed to serve on the Family Assistance Commission (FAC) organized by the New York State Funeral Directors Association (NYSFDA) to respond to disasters occurring in New York State. As a FAC member, Wilson will interview survivors and process paperwork to assist in identifying and facilitating the release of remains to the next of kin.

Wilson was chosen to serve on this commission due to his vast experience as a funeral director in New York State. Wilson of Wilson Funeral Home in Norwich, has been a licensed funeral director for 28 years. He has participated in more than 1,500 funeral arrangement conferences with families. In addition to his experience working with families, Wilson has completed a disaster training program in Syracuse led by Tom Shepardson, widely known as the “Father of DMORT” (Disaster Mortuary Response Team).

FAC will operate under the auspices of the New York State Tribute Foundation, which is the charitable arm of NYSFDA. The NYS Tribute Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting education, outreach and research programs that advance the public's understanding of end-of-life issues.
