Noted Austrian Pianist Albert Muhlbock to Perform on Feb. 13 at SUNY Cortland

CORTLAND, NY (02/06/2009)(readMedia)-- Austrian-born pianist Albert Muhlbock from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music will give a recital of classical pieces on Friday, Feb. 13, at SUNY Cortland.

Presented by the College's Performing Arts Department, the concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Dowd Fine Arts Theatre. Featuring music by Franz Schubert, W.A. Mozart, Johann Strauss Jr. and Franz Liszt, the performance is free and open to the public.

Muhlbock is visiting the College from Feb. 11-13 as a special guest of SUNY Cortland President Erik J. Bitterbaum. He will accompany a second special guest, Paul Alexander, a 1982 SUNY Cortland graduate who just completed his 15th season as a coach with the National Football League's Cincinnati Bengals. The two visitors will also meet with students, faculty, staff, coaches and administrators during their stay in Cortland.

Muhlbock is completing a doctoral degree in piano performance at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with Professor Eugene Pridonoff. He is teaching classical piano to Alexander, a music minor while at SUNY Cortland, who plays piano, guitar and sings.

Muhlbock studied at Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and the University of Vienna, as well as with such instructors as Andrei Jasinsky, Paul Badura Skoda, Ludwig Hoffman and Luiz Carlos de Moura Castro.

He has performed as soloist with orchestras in China, Japan and Europe. In concert, Muhlbock has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist in Beijing, Shenzhen (China), Taipei, Taichung, Tainan (Taiwan), Hanoi, Kyoto, Cincinnati, Mexico, Germany, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, and his native Austria. Highlights were recitals at the Brahms-Saal in the Vienna Musikverein, the Schubertsaal in the Vienna Konzerthaus, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and in the Beijing Concert Hall in China. He has taught at the Municipal Conservatory of Vienna and the National College of the Arts in Tainan. His radio and CD recordings include works by Schubert-Liszt, Mozart-Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Chopin.

Muhlbock won competitive awards at Vulaines sur Seine; Brest, France; and Marsala, Italy; as well as prizes at competitions for 20th century music in Linz, Austria; Vienna, Austria; and the first prize at the CCM Piano Concerto Competition, which resulted in a performance of Bartok's Second Piano Concerto with the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra under Mark Gibson.
