Nothing Fishy About State Fair Seafood Cooking Contest Winners

DES MOINES, IA (08/18/2017) (readMedia)-- Top seafood cooks from around the state squared off in the Seafood Prepared in the Heartland competition, judged Thursday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Kyle Barton of West Des Moines won first place in both the Appetizer and Soup classes and a total of $300 in gift certificates.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance, best use of fish and seafood.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
