Nursing College Continues Expansion in Charleston:
Computer Lab Building Project Underway
DANVILLE , IL (05/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Lakeview College of Nursing recently began building a computer lab as an expansion to their Charleston facility, located at 580 W. Lincoln Ave.
The 936 square foot expansion will house 30 computers and one teacher station at a cost of $275,000. The following are providing services for this project: Don Walton, architect; McDowell Builders, general contractor; Glesco, electrical contractor; and BEC, mechanical contractor. The project is scheduled for completion prior to start of the fall 2014 classes.
Lakeview President Sheila Mingee said she is excited about the opportunity to increase access to the College's computer lab. "The computer lab that we currently have is shared space within a classroom environment. With our growing enrollment there is more of a need to utilize the classroom space as a lecture space and the new computer lab will allow us to do so."
The funds for this project are a result of a Lakeview investment as well as a grant received through the Illinois Board of Higher Education in cooperation with the Illinois Independent Colleges Capital Improvement (ICCAP).
To date, the College has received about $1.2 million from the State of Illinois as part of this grant. The College has contributed about $600,000 toward these building projects over the last few years that have totaled about $1.8 million, according to Mingee.
This first phase of the grant focused on building new restrooms, establishing a new main office, entrance and lobby, expanding an existing classroom to include a computer lab, and purchasing and re-surfacing parking. The second phase of this project was directed to finish the interior of the skills lab as well as the reconfiguration of the former skills lab into additional faculty offices.
Lakeview College of Nursing offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree. This specialized college has had a presence in the Charleston Area since 2001 through its cooperative agreement with Eastern Illinois University.
