O'Connor Foundation Awards SUNY Delhi's Center for Community Engagement $28,000

DELHI, NY (07/02/2013)(readMedia)-- The O'Connor Foundation has awarded SUNY Delhi $28,000 in matching grants in support of the college's O'Connor Center for Community Engagement for 2014.

"On behalf of the students, faculty, staff and our local community, I want to thank the O'Connor Foundation for continuing its generous support of the Center," said Elizabeth Sova, O'Connor Center coordinator. "This support will allow the Center to continue to seek new and innovative ways to partner with the local area through service-learning projects and volunteering." According to Sova, Delhi students completed over 24,000 hours of community service last year with 1,150 campus community members participating.

The O'Connor Center for Community Engagement was established on the Delhi campus over 14 years ago, thanks to lead support from the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O'Connor Foundation of Hobart.

Additional accolades for the O'Connor Center include being named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the seventh consecutive year and ranking as a SUNY leader in American Red Cross blood donations. The college has earned a $1,000 scholarship for deserving Delhi students as a result.

The Center for Community Engagement serves as a clearinghouse for community organizations, and facilitates service-learning and volunteerism by arranging for transportation, orientation and training, and feedback on completed community service projects. The new grant from the O'Connor Foundation will allow the Center to continue its mission to help prepare students as socially responsible citizens who can become leaders and decision makers in their chosen fields.
