OCTC 2017 Award of Excellence for Employees

OWENSBORO, KY (02/08/2018) Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) honored employees by hosting the annual Awards of Excellence ceremony on Friday, December 7. Nominations for the awards are brought forth from the campus community and a panel of previous winners select the honorees.

Nominations for the OCTC Staff Award of Excellence included: Waylon Millay - Student Affairs Assistant in the Counseling Center, Ceary Thomas - Marketing and Admissions Assistant, and Dennis Redd - Facilities Management Team Leader.

Dennis Redd was awarded the honor. He received multiple nominations for working tirelessly behind the scenes serving the college and students. One story relayed him coming to check on events on the weekend, after an extra full work week. Noticing a student with a flat tire, Dennis helped change the flat before heading home. In addition to his normal duties, his work was commended for going beyond the expected.

The nominations for Administrative Staff Award of Excellence included: Dr. Andrea Borregard - Director of Financial Aid, Kenny Moxley - Director of Maintenance & Operations, Lindsey Greer - TriO Advisor, Dr. Stacy Edds-Ellis - Interim Dean of Academic Affairs, Charles Johnson - Student Affairs Specialist, Christi Midkiff - Director of Grants & Contracts, Katie Vincent - Program Facilitator for Workforce Solutions, and Dr. Julia Ledford - Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

The nominations for Administrative Staff Award of Excellence included: Dr. Andrea Borregard - Director of Financial Aid, Kenny Moxley - Director of Maintenance & Operations, Lindsey Greer - TriO Advisor, Dr. Stacy Edds-Ellis - Interim Dean of Academic Affairs, Charles Johnson - Student Affairs Specialist, Christi Midkiff - Director of Grants & Contracts, Katie Vincent - Program Facilitator for Workforce Solutions, and Dr. Julia Ledford - Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

The administrative staff award went to Dr. Ledford who has served as division chair for Humanities for over 20 years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Austin Peay State University, a Master of Arts & Specialist in College Teaching from Murray State University, and a Ph.D in Higher Education from of Southern Illinois University. In addition to teaching communications and theater, Ledford has produced and directed student productions each semester during her tenure. Dr. Ledford has also been instrumental in developing and encouraging humanities faculty to develop online courses.

The nominations for the OCTC Faculty Award of Excellence included: Tammy Rice - Associate Professor, Communications, Matt Alschbach - Assistant Professor, History, and David Martin - Professor of Mathematics and Chemistry.

The faculty award of excellence was presented to David Martin. Martin's credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Georgia and a Master of Science degree from Western Kentucky University. He received multiple nominations for his outstanding teaching, advising and volunteer efforts on campus. In addition to his normal teaching duties, Martin volunteers to teach a First Year Experience (FYE) course and spends time volunteering to advise extra students in the TRAC and START Centers. Martin also serves on the FIRST Lego League robotics committee and the S-STEM grant committee. He is also active in the Oak Island Theater company.

Scott Williams, OCTC President commented, "These awards mean more because they are nominated and selected by the campus community. We have such exemplary employees that it really is an honor to be recognized as one of the best of the best, and it is important that we as a college take the time to celebrate these winners that all have servant leadership at their core."
