OWENSBORO, KY (04/06/2018) AMTEC, now housed at Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC), is one of the partner sponsors of the STEM Success for Women Telesummit. This is a free professional development opportunity that begins on Tuesday, April 17 and runs through Thursday, April 26, 2018.

This virtual conference is funded by the National Science Foundation to improve colleges' success in the recruitment and retention of women and minorities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

The sessions are scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week, with the first session beginning at 12 p.m. and the second session beginning at 2 p.m. CST. Each session should last less than the allotted hour time frame and there is an opportunity for questions at each session. Virginia Booth Womack, Director of the Minority Engineering Program, Purdue University. She is also the President of the National Association of Multicultural Engineering Program Advocates (NAMEPA, Inc.). She increased first year retention rates for underrepresented minority engineering students from 63% to 95%. She used her engineering skills to institute a process for identifying retention road blocks faced by minority students and developed a strategy to remove them.
