OGS Announces Fabulous 4th and Fireworks Festival Information

ALBANY, NY (07/03/2009)(readMedia)-- On Saturday Price Chopper's 33rd annual July 4th celebration on the Plaza will be held at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Once again the Plaza will be filled with the sounds of music all day and in the evening the sky will light up with the Capital District's best fireworks show.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday, visitors to the Plaza should note the following:

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a convenient parking location and a comfortable spot on the Plaza. The grounds open at 2 p.m. with entertainment to follow until the fireworks show begins at 9:15 p.m.

Free parking is available under the Empire State Plaza in P-2 North, V-Lot (Visitor's Lot), P-2 South and P-3 South. Free parking is also available in the East Parking Garage located one block east of the Madison Avenue entrance to the Plaza, and in the Grand Street parking lot, just north of Madison Avenue. Directions to parking locations can be obtained at www.ogs.state.ny.us.

Street Closures: State Street between Swan Street and Eagle Street will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Madison Avenue between Eagle Street and Swan Street will be closed at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Madison Avenue will re-open after the fireworks.

The rain date for the fireworks show only is Sunday, July 5th. The entertainment will take place unless weather conditions become unsafe. The public will be notified of any cancellation or postponement through the local media.

Coolers are permitted, but glass containers are prohibited. Grills, open fires or other cooking devices are not permitted at the Empire State Plaza or any other state property, including parking facilities.
