OTDA Chief Information Officer Honored By Computerworld Magazine
Daniel Chan Recognized as a Premier 100 IT Leader
ALBANY, NY (12/08/2009)(readMedia)-- The State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced today that its Chief Information Officer, Daniel Chan, Ph.D., was recently named one of Computerworld magazine's 2010 Premier 100 IT Leaders.
Dr. Chan was chosen for his work on the development and implementation of OTDA's myBenefits website, an interactive self-screening tool used to determine potential eligibility for a number of work support programs and an online food stamp application process. The goal of myBenefits is to provide New Yorkers with an e-government hub for human services -- a single site where individuals and families can connect with the many benefits, services and supports the State offers.
"Dan's talent, work ethic and leadership capabilities have benefited our agency and the people we serve greatly," said Kristin Proud, Deputy Secretary for Human Services, Technology and Operations, who is currently overseeing OTDA. "He was integral in the development of our myBenefits.ny.gov website, which has helped deliver services in a more effective and efficient manner. All of us at OTDA would like to extend our congratulations to Dan and thank him for his exemplary professionalism and expertise in the IT field."
"I am grateful for this honor and the recognition it brings to all those involved in the collaboration across multiple State agencies that led to the development of the myBenefits site," said Dr. Chan. "Through this group effort, we succeeded in reducing overall development costs and improving the coordination of client services. I look forward to continuing our work to effectively enhance our capability to help New Yorkers cope in a turbulent economy where many are facing a declining level of economic security."
"The Premier 100 awards program shines a spotlight on the best of IT leadership and innovation," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Despite a tough economy, these senior IT leaders are seizing this rare moment to steer measured growth, embark on innovative pilots and build loyalty in their most valued workers. We're pleased to honor the achievements of these 100 men and women who epitomize calm and steady IT leadership."
Computerworld is a leading source of technology news information for IT professionals worldwide. Dr. Chan, along with 99 other honorees, will be honored during the company's annual Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference next year. The awards program was first initiated in 2000, and since that time has been used to direct attention upon individuals who have had a positive impact on their organization through technology. Leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies and organizations were named for their exceptional technology leadership, innovative ideas to business challenges and effectively managed IT strategies.
This is not the first time that Dr. Chan has been awarded for his technological expertise. In September of 2008 the CIO was recognized as the New York State Public Sector CIO of the Year at the annual Government Technology Conference in Albany, NY.
