BATAVIA, NY (01/26/2016)(readMedia)-- Medina, NY- Genesee Community College and the editors of the online arts magazine, the Oak Orchard Review (http://www.oakorchardreview.com/) continue to celebrate the very best writers and artists in the Western New York region.

After a brief hiatus, Oak Orchard Review is back and looking forward to hosting a reading and art display open to the public this Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m. at the Wide Angle Art Gallery (525 Main St., Medina, NY 14103). The editors and special guests will share essays, poems and artwork that interpret the theme of "Change." There will be an "open mic" opportunity for community members as well.

Oak Orchard Review is named for a river which flows through various towns and hamlets of Genesee and Orleans County. More than simply a body of water, a river is a thing that sustains, connects and nourishes the land, the body and the spirit. The journal is meant to similarly sustain its artists, authors and readers. Editors seek writers and artists who feel a physical or emotional connection to the Western New York region, and who are compelled to share their poetry, stories, artwork and photography.

"It is our mission to inspire and connect with our readers; to showcase Western New York's most talented and inspiring artists and writers; to promote artistic endeavors in our community and to encourage and recognize emerging artists and writers," Karen Jones, poetry editor, stated.

"We hope to generate interest in the community for some future editions of our online magazine as well as some fun community events to highlight the amazing creative talents of our young people, especially our high school and college students," said Jim Simon, GCC Associate Dean.
