Olin College Junior Named to KPCB Engineering Fellows Program

NEEDHAM, MA (02/21/2012)(readMedia)-- Chosen from a pool of nearly 1,000 applications from over 100 universities, Olin College junior Margaret Ann Seger has been selected as one of just two female Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) Engineering Fellows for 2012. The newly launched KPCB Engineering Fellows Program is a three-month work-based program that pairs 22 top U.S. engineering students with innovative startup companies in Silicon Valley. With a goal of providing top-quality mentorship, creating meaningful relationships between talented individuals, and offering work experiences with substantial responsibilities, KPCB chose a very select group of students to spend the summer with its portfolio companies.

Seger's summer placement is with Chegg, an online textbook rental startup with a national clientele. As part of the application process she interviewed with several companies in the KPCB portfolio, but when Chegg made her an offer she jumped at the chance.

"I think for me personally and professionally this honor translates into the opportunity to really get to know a great group of people with whom I share a common interest and passion," said Seger. "I am also really excited to have the opportunity to interact with Kleiner Perkins, one of the foremost venture capital firms in the world."

This summer marks the inaugural session of the KPCB Engineering Fellows Program, which places students in KPCB portfolio companies, where they can develop their technical skills; gain significant experience working on unique and challenging technical problems; develop new relationships that are meaningful to their careers; and be mentored by an engineering executive within the company. Fellows will also be invited to attend private events held by KPCB and events hosted by portfolio companies, where they can meet other talented engineering students, network with technology luminaries and explore the San Francisco Bay Area.
