One Cedarville Student's Call to Protect and Serve at the Highest Level
Protecting the nation's leaders requires unwavering dedication, split-second decision-making and a level of precision where failure is not an option. For one graduating Cedarville University student, that challenge isn't just a dream - it's his next mission. As he prepares to step into the elite ranks of the U.S. Secret Service, he will join an even more elite group of professionals committed to safeguarding the highest levels of government with excellence and integrity.
Laurence Butt, a senior IT management major, has been hired as a uniformed division officer for the Secret Service with a planned assignment to the White House. He will begin the rigorous seven-month training program immediately after his graduation from Cedarville on May 3.
Although a career with the Secret Service wasn't part of Butt's original plan when he first arrived at Cedarville University, his international upbringing and undergraduate experiences helped shape his path. However, it wasn't until a hallmate mentioned the possibility of working for the Secret Service in 2023 that he began to seriously consider this exciting opportunity.
