STAUNTON, VA (01/25/2010)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Recreation Department is expecting a large turnout at this year's Ellen Gypsy Yard Sale. The vendor spaces for the event scheduled for Saturday, February 6th are sold out. Jennifer Jones, Superintendent of Recreation said ," Ellen's Gypsy Yard Sale has always attracted large numbers of patrons, but this year is different. The bleak economy has dictated that people have less disposable income and have turned many into smart shoppers looking for bargains." With 35 different vendors displaying and selling wares they have deemed unwanted or unnecessary , there is sure to be a large quantity and variety of affordable treasures of every type. "The economy has created this niche and we believe the need for affordable goods such as clothes and housewares will bring the community out in droves. That's the great thing about a yard sale, what is useless to one person could be very valuable to others, it's a highly beneficial form of recycling", Jones said.
Ellen's Gypsy Yard Sale is a win-win situation for the buyer and the seller. In lean times with money tight, this event is an profitable venture for the seller and for the buyer, it is an opportunity to make thrifty purchases in one clean place without the extra effort and hassles experienced when dumpster diving or cruising for the curbscore. The event is free to the public. Doors open promptly at 8am - no early pickers.
The Staunton Recreation and Parks and Recreation Department organizes this cooperative event as part of their mission to use their departments' resources to solve community issues. Staunton Parks and Recreation Department: The City's Front Porch.
