Oneida Airman Receives Meritorious Service Medal from New York Air National Guard

The 224th Air Defense Group recently presented service medals for outstanding performance to the following New York Air National Guardsmen.

Maj. Peter Onan, Oneida, Meritorious Service Medal. A mission crew commander at the 224th Air Defense Squadron (ADS), Onan was recognized for his outstanding work directing operations supporting Presidential flights and National Special Security Events. Other contributions included developing and conducting qualification training for more than 60 Airmen, and spearheading the unit's participation in a $1.6 billion test and evaluation project.

The 224th Air Defense Group (ADG) is composed of the 224th Air Defense Squadron and 224th Support Squadron, located in Rome, and Detachment 1 and Detachment 2 that serve in the Washington, D.C. area. The 224th ADG provides the forces to conduct the Eastern Air Defense Sector's (EADS) mission. Part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the Sector is responsible for the air defense of the eastern U.S.
