Operation B- Sting Slated for Saturday, July 21st - All Teens Welcome

STAUNTON, VA (07/17/2012)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with the Shenandoah Valley Office on Youth will host the summer annual Operation B-Sting. The event is held at the in Gypsy Hill Action Park. Over $500 in prizes will be awarded to skateboarders, BMX bikers and bands in various competitions.

Registration starts at 3pm, event starts at 4pm

Skate Competition-

Teens can sign up the day of the event to compete in 3 different skill levels- beginner, intermediate and advanced. Prizes are awarded in each level for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Riders will be judged by a panel of experienced skaters and will get 2 chances to get achieve a high score. Riders will get one minute alone on the skate pad to show the judges their tricks and abilities. Then, riders will be grouped into no more than 5 and a jam session will take place.

There will also be random drawings to give some freebies away from Escape Skate Shop.

This is the second year that the BMX Bike competition will be happening. It will take place after the skate competition with prizes courtesy of Black Dog Bikes in Staunton.

The Central Shenandoah Valley Office will be selling hot dogs and ice cream and cold drinks.

Band Talent Showcase

As of right now, we will be showcasing two local bands: The Evidence Of from Harrisonburg (last year's winner who is now getting air time on several local stations) and Scarlet Morning Sky from Staunton. The Band Competition has morphed into a talent contest this year 2012 - all musical talent (individual and group) is welcome to compete in the event. Chad Wyatt (of Not Now Music) will be providing the D.J. Services, sound system and music during the down times between competitions.
