HARRISBURG, PA (12/04/2008)(readMedia)-- The Pa. Satellite News Service will provide a satellite feed of a 1:30 p.m. news conference. The feed includes interviews with CEO Joe Brimmeier, as well as turnpike traffic and toll-plaza b-roll.
Under Act 44, passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Ed Rendell in July 2007, the Turnpike will provide $2.5 billion in supplemental transportation funding from FY 2008-2010. To meet this obligation, most tolls will increase by 25 percent on Jan. 4, 2009. For the first time, toll-increase proceeds are primarily earmarked for non-Turnpike projects; funds will largely be used by PennDOT.
Next month, the most-common passenger-vehicle rate will increase from 75 cents to 95 cents; the most-common truck rate will increase from $6.25 to $7.85. Starting in 2010, tolls will go up incrementally each year, projected to be approximately three percent annually to adjust for inflation.
