NEW YORK, NY (04/16/2020) (readMedia)-- Today, Sarah Goff, Deputy Director of Common Cause/NY and Andrew Hoppin, the former and first Chief Information Officer for the NYS Senate, will hold a press conference call to provide clear guidance and direction for how the New York City Council can and should continue legislating remotely. The group will lay out existing technology for remote voting, hosting public meetings, hearings, recording minutes etc....

The City Council, which is a full time legislative body, will hold a stated session remotely on April 22nd, but there is no indication of any scheduled hearings, committee meetings, or future stated meetings, etc.

Common Cause/NY has called on NYS lawmakers to continue doing the people's business, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Albany Times Union, the New York Times, the Buffalo News, and Daily Gazette have all published editorials urging New York lawmakers to step up and continue to legislate remotely post-budget.
