AIKEN, SC (03/22/2018) Rebecca Spiegel, the community director for Pacer Crossings, the freshmen residence hall at the University of South Carolina Aiken, earned top honors at the 2018 Southeastern Association of Housing Officers conference in Biloxi, Miss.

Spiegel and a peer from Georgia Southern University teamed up for the conference's case study competition. She and teammate, Kenzel Hill, a residence hall director at GSU, earned first place out of 10 teams.

As part of the competition, teams were given a case study and had to prepare a 10-minute presentation on their intended course of action based on the scenario. Teams also had to field questions from the judges based on their presentations.

As part of the fictional case study, students planned to protest a guest invited to speak during a scheduled campus event.

As leaders on the imaginary campus, Spiegel and Hill determined how they might respond to and guide the students' efforts.

"It was a great experience," Spiegel said.

"In addition to the case study competition, I also attended some interesting educational and professional development training sessions."
