AIKEN, SC (10/02/2018) The Aiken County Commission for Higher Education honored longtime University of South Carolina Aiken staff member by endowing a scholarship in her name.

The Sherri McDaniel Jenik Endowed Scholarship Fund for Special Education was established in Jenik's name to recognize her more than 30 years of service to the ACCHE. Jenik retired in May as the executive assistant to the chancellor.

"I am humbled to be recognized in this way," Jenik said.

"I firmly believe in the mission of the university and am thrilled that this scholarship will help deserving students achieve their educational dreams."

In addition to providing support to the commission, she served three USC Aiken chancellors: Dr. Robert Alexander, Dr. Tom Hallman, and Dr. Sandra Jordan.

In addition to the scholarship, the Chancellor's Cabinet placed an ornamental bench in Jenik's honor, just outside the Pickens-Salley House on campus.

"These are small tokens of thanks for the hard work and dedication Sherri has committed to the commission, the university, our chancellors and most importantly our students," said Teresa Haas, interim chair of the ACCHE.

"We can think of no more fitting honor than to establish this scholarship in her name."
