AIKEN, SC (09/03/2018) During the University of South Carolina Aiken's annual Get on Board Day, members of the student body learned about the more 90 student organizations on campus.

These include Greek organizations, honor societies, professional, civic and philanthropic groups, and myriad special interest clubs.

Leaders in higher education say there are many reasons why students should get involved on campus. These reasons have tangible and intangible advantages, according to U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges edition.

The annual report says that in addition to building leadership skills, membership in student organizations provides: the opportunity for students to become connected to the university; the chance to build community; outlets for students to discover their interests, passions, and strengths; and experiences to be enumerated on a resume. Getting involved also helps set students up for success beyond their collegiate experiences.

"Being involved helps build soft skills necessary in the classroom and the boardroom, including organization and time management," said one campus leader.

Opportunities abound for Pacers to get involved, whether that means joining an organization, attending a function hosted by a student group, leading a student initiative, or volunteering to support a host of philanthropic activities.
