CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (01/31/2010)(readMedia)-- The Finishing Trades Institute of Western and Central New York (Ithaca) will conduct a recruitment from February 1, 2010 through January 12, 2011 for four painter, decorator, paperhanger apprentices; two glazier apprentices; and one drywall taper apprentices State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.
Applications can be obtained from:
• IUPAT, District Council #4, 585 Aero Drive, Cheektowaga, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding legal holidays, but will only be accepted at the open recruitment at this location on the first Tuesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.;
• 123 S. Cayuga Street, Suite 204, Ithaca, NY, on the first Monday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. except September and July (due to holidays) wherein applications will be available on the first Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and will be accepted at the open recruitment at this location during the same schedule;
• Broome Workforce New York, 171 Front Street, Binghamton, NY, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but will only be accepted at the open recruitment at this location on the second Wednesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.;
• New York State Employment Service, 200 Baldwin Street, Elmira, NY, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but will only be accepted at the open recruitment at this location on the second Tuesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and
• Department of labor office and can only be accepted at the open recruitments listed above, as specified for each location, excluding legal holidays in all instances.
The Committee requires that applicants:
• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Must have a high school or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by applicant written attestation. Physical examination, including drug screening, may be required at time of indenture.
• Must be able to work in the United States legally.
• Must meet the physical demands of the job, which requires work above ground level. Some work may be 35 feet or higher above ground level.
• Must have a valid driver's license in order to operate company vehicles on public highways.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites throughout Central New York and related instruction in Geneva at one-week intervals.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.
