Painters Recruit Apprentices

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (02/02/2010)(readMedia)-- The Finishing Trades Institute of Western and Central New York (Rochester) will conduct a recruitment from February 3, 2010 through January 5, 2011 for two painter, decorator, paperhanger apprentices; three glazier apprentices; and one drywall taper apprentices State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Application can be obtained from:

• IUPAT, District Council #4, 585 Aero Drive, Cheektowaga, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but will only be accepted at the open recruitment at this location on the first Tuesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.;

• 39 Saginaw Drive, Suite 16, Rochester, NY, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but will only be accepted at the open recruitment at this location on the first Wednesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and

• Local Department of Labor office and can only be accepted at the open recruitments listed above, as specified for each location, excluding legal holidays in all instances.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 17 years old.

• Must have a high school or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).

• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by applicant written attestation. Physical examination, including drug screening, may be required at time of indenture.

• Must be able to work in the United States legally.

• Must meet the physical demands of the job, which requires work above ground level. Some work may be 35 feet or higher above ground level.

• Must have a valid driver's license in order to operate company vehicles on public highways.

• Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites throughout Central New York and related instruction in Geneva at one-week intervals.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
