Parents Pile Praise on 2010 Subaru Legacy

Parents Magazine, Edmunds Name Sedan as Top Family Car

BOSTON, MASS (06/24/2010)(readMedia)-- For the second year running, consumers have picked the Subaru Legacy as one of the best family cars. Parents magazine and Edmunds.com used a combination of feedback from vehicle owners and test drives to compile the annual list of the most family-friendly vehicles.

Only cars with anti-lock brakes and front, side and side-curtain airbags were considered. These safety features are standard on all Subaru Legacy models, along with Subaru All-Wheel Drive, a stability system that delivers extra traction and control in difficult driving conditions.

"Safety needs to be your first thought when you buy a family car in New England," said Sean Ternullo, General Manager of Greater Boston Subaru dealer Quirk Works Subaru. "We have snow, we have rain, and we have city streets that are tougher to drive than some off-road trails. Subaru has spent 40 years perfecting its all-wheel-drive system with places like Massachusetts in mind, and the 2010 Legacy is a four-season car that provides excellent handling in all conditions."

Once parents know the kids are safe, balancing the family budget is the next big concern. The 2010 Subaru Legacy scores high marks in the value category, with a base model available for around $20,000. Subaru provides exceptional flexibility in options packages, allowing customers to get just the features they want, rather than bundles that include costly, unneeded extras.

Along with a lower up-front cost, parents will benefit from improved fuel efficiency. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine on base models delivers an impressive 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. Even the muscular 3.6-liter 24-valve V6 goes easy on gas, offering 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

"Don't think for a second that this car is frumpy," Ternullo said. "This is a sporty, fun Subaru with plenty of horsepower and performance, the kind of vehicle both moms and dads can enjoy whether or not the kids are in the back."

A variety of sport driving accessories are available for the Legacy, including aluminum STI pedal covers, battery straps and oil filler caps, as well as a trunk spoiler for a rally car look. On the practical side, Subaru offers an available trunk cargo net and a cargo organizer that can keep four bags of groceries from tipping over on tight turns.

The recognition from Parents magazine and Edmunds.com is just the latest award for the 2010 Subaru Legacy. Kiplinger's Personal Finance awarded the Legacy its "Best New Car" honors in the $25,000 category, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the sedan a Top Safety Pick.
