Parker Dunaway Receives Final Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/10/2013)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 25, Hampden-Sydney College sophomore Parker Alexander Dunaway received the C.T. Crawley Music Award, presented by Dr. R. David Salvage, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts. Established in 1948 and given in memory of Camilla Virginia Taylor Crawley, this award is given to an underclassman who has contributed significantly to the music program in the classroom and shows the most promise as a musician.

Parker was recently elected Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger, for the 2013-2014 academic year. He served this year as the Associate Editor. He is a member of the Society for Collegiate Journalists, the Classics Club, the Future Educators Club, the Pre-Law Society, and the Animation Club. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Freshman Journalist Award at Final Convocation in the Spring of 2011. A history and Latin major, Parker graduated from Christian Life Academy and is the son of Heber E. Dunaway, Jr., MD of Baton Rouge and Kimbrell Dunaway of Jackson, MS.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
