Parks and Recreation Energizes Staunton with Plans For Really Cool Summer Survival

STAUNTON, VA (04/09/2010)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department will begin distributing their Spring - Summer Brochure beginning on Monday, April 12th. Summer entertainment at the Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand will be one of the many features in the quarterly publication. Two crowd favorites; The Wednesday Night Blugrass and Family Nite Flix will dominate the back cover with the scheduled line-up for each.

Providing nightly free entertainment under the canopy of 200 year old Oak trees at the Bandstand is just one of many ways the recreation department plans to offer the community relief from the summer heat and financial stresses. "We've got a Summer Barbeque Series planned with David Hamilton, the Executive Chef of the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. David has cooked for celebrities such as Martha Stewart, Keith Richards and former President Ronald Reagan. The series will be a month long on Tuesday nights with enticing menus including Chipotle Glazed Skirt Steak with Charred Tomato Salsa, Teriyaki Glazed Shrimp Skewers and BBQ Spare Ribs with delicious salad accompaniments. His series will take place on the back porch at Montgomery Hall, so come relax under the canopy of shade trees, learn and try some great food", writes Claire Anderson, recreation programmer in the department blog 'The Method to Our Madness'".

The Recreation Department has also partnered with several businesses around town like the Frontier Culture Museum, Shenandoah Pizza, and The Darjeeling Café to offer many diverse programs for the wide ranging tastes in Staunton. Something new to make it easier on customers, registration for all the fantastic Recreational services from childcare to trips to athletics, via credit cards beginning April 20 at the main office.
